Hartley Castle is an ideal base for touring the Upper Eden Valley, Teesdale, The Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.
Walking
Walkers can access the hills direct from the door walking to either the Nine Standards Rigg or Wild Boar Fell. Numerous walks along the Pennine Way or Coast to Coast footpath. Merrygill and Podgill Viaduct are over our farmland and there is immediate access to this footpath which takes you along the old disused railway line. The Kirkby Stephen poetry path depicting the farming year is also linked to this trail.

Visit Stenkrith Park (a deep river gorge), Jubilee Park ( a recently restored wooded area with pond) and walk down to Frank's Bridge and feed the ducks on the River Eden( a 5 minutes walk away)
